About Us
In the early months of 2008, a group of likeminded individuals from various professional backgrounds came together to form Sri Shankara Cancer Foundation. Under the leadership of the Managing Trustee, Dr. B.S. Srinath, who has over 40 years of experience in surgical oncology, the trustees laid out the objectives of the trust, which centred around reducing the physical, emotional and financial suffering of cancer patients and their families as well as bringing down the catastrophic burden of this disease on the society.
As a roadmap to this goal, a multifaceted approach was planned and at the top of this list was the establishment of a state of the art, affordable cancer hospital that is accessible to all irrespective of caste, creed, religion, gender or socioeconomic status. Thus began the search for a suitable land to establish this dream hospital. When the trustees shared their wish to build a cancer hospital that can be accessed by any member of the society, His Holiness Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Sri Bharathi Tirtha Mahasannidhanam of Dakshinamnaya Sringeri Sri Sharada Peetham, expressed his happiness and blessed our trustees by providing the land to construct the hospital in the premises of Shankaramath, Bangalore.
Equipped with top of the line infrastructure, the hospital opened its doors on 15 August 2012. The hospital has quickly gained popularity as a leader in cancer care by setting high standards of excellence in oncology.
As of December 2020, SSCHRC has registered and treated over 50,000 cancer patients. Our department of Radiotherapy, the first department to commence services in the hospital, is powered with 2 state of the art linear accelerators and treats 150-175 patients every day. The highly skilled team of surgical oncologists perform above 350 complex surgeries every month. Medical Oncologists with vast experience are treating over 120 patients every day using the latest updates in oncological care such as immunotherapy and personalised medicine. SSCHRC received full NABH accreditation in August 2021; this is a testament to the fact that highest quality of care is provided to all cancer patients at Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital & Research Centre.
The high volume of complex cases treated at SSCHRC creates the ideal environment to train future oncologists. Recognising this, the National Board of Examinations and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences have accredited our hospital as a super speciality training centre for DNB and Fellowship programmes.
Keeping up with the technological advancement and academic excellence, our compassionate and empathetic doctors and nurses ensure each patient receives the best, comprehensive and holistic care at SSCHRC.
